Winery Background Glaetzer Wines is a family-owned estate in South Australias renowned Barossa Valley. Founded by acclaimed winemaker Ben Glaetzer, the winery is known for producing bold, structured reds using old-vine fruit and small-batch techniques. With a focus on site expression and uncompromising quality, Glaetzer has earned its place among the top names in modern Barossa winemaking. Vineyards and Vintage Conditions This Shiraz was crafted from four standout vineyards in Ebenezer, the northernmost tip of Barossa Valley. These vines, some over a century old, grow in deep red-brown sandy loam soils that naturally enhance concentration and depth. The 2018 growing season was near perfect, with low rainfall, healthy canopy growth and a calm, dry Indian summer, resulting in small berries packed with purity and structure. Winemaking Each vineyard parcel was fermented separately in small open-top fermenters. Gentle hand plunging was done three times daily to extract flavour and texture without overworking the wine. Ferments were kept cool to protect aromatic freshness. The wine was then aged for 16 months in 100 percent new French oak hogsheads, where it also underwent natural malolactic fermentation to soften the texture and enhance integration. The final blend captures the full character of Shiraz from Ebenezer. Tasting Notes Appearance Deep inky purple with hints of crimson Aroma Layers of blackberry, boysenberry, blood plum and dried herbs, with subtle notes of pepper, clove and dark chocolate Palate Full-bodied and powerful with plush fruit, mocha, cedar and a hint of liquorice. Fine tannins give it structure without overpowering the fruit Finish Long and layered, with spice and mineral energy that will evolve beautifully over time Food Pairing This Shiraz pairs effortlessly with slow-roasted lamb, dry-aged ribeye or wagyu beef. It also holds its own with earthy dishes like mushroom risotto, truffled polenta or aged cheeses such as Comté and Manchego. Cellaring Potential Drinking beautifully now, but will reward cellaring through 2040 and beyond, developing complexity and graceful maturity. Awards amp Accolades 98 Points Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate Velvety and concentrated. A galaxy of complexity in one glass. Ripe, dense, fresh and beguiling. Super good. 19.520 Matthew Jukes, UK Rã is not a monster wine, but a monstrously long wine. Imagine all of Bens experience and skill in just one bottle Rã is it.
